In 2015, Chinese acephate market gets involved in the doldrums: slumping price, decreasing demand, tumbling export volume and value. CCM believes that acephate will still hold a stable position in the domestic pesticide market in the foreseeable future.
In 2015, Chinese acephate market undergoes depression: slumping price, decreasing demand, tumbling export volume and value.
Among insecticides, acephate takes up a relatively large market share in China. The weighted average closing price is decreasing drastically. At present, the ex-works price of acephate technical hits the record low since Jan. 2014. According to CCM’s price monitoring, the average ex-works price of 97% acephate technical was USD4,994/t in Dec., slumping by 26.23% from USD6,770/t in Jan. this year and declining by 27.04% from USD6,845/t in Dec. 2014. Reviewing 2014 market, acephate technical price was on the rise. In Dec. 2014, the average ex-works price of 97% acephate technical grew by 26.69% to USD6,845/t from USD5,403/t in Jan.
It’s estimated that acephate technical price is unlikely to rebound dramatically in the foreseeable future.
Firstly, raw material price will not surge in a short time. It’s difficult to shore acephate technical price up. O,O-Dimethyl phosphoramidothioate, a raw material of acephate, witnesses a downtrend in price in 2015. So far, no favorable factor supports O,O-Dimethyl phosphoramidothioate price. The average ex-works price remains low.
Secondly, acephate is included in the Catalog of High risk Pesticides issued by Shandong Provincial Department of Agriculture, because it is easily to cause excessive methamidophos residue. It signifies that the future development of acephate will be negatively affected. The Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China issued policies to eliminate high toxicity and high residue pesticides. Industry insiders hold pessimistic attitude towards potentials of acephate.
Zhang Wenjun, Deputy of International Cooperation Service of the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA), revealed:
-
From Jan. to Sept. 2015, the export volume of acephate was down by 51.46% YoY to 13,000 tonnes, ranking the 13th among exported pesticides (by volume). In 2014, it ranked the 6th.
-
From Jan. to Sept. 2015, the export value of acephate was down by 54.53% YoY to USD73 million, ranking the 13th among exported pesticides (by value). In 2014, it ranked the 4th.
It can be believed that the demand for acephate is still large. Even though the demand for organophosphorus insecticides is falling in recent years, it’s predicted by the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center (NATESC) that the demand will be 71,900 toones in 2016, down by 6.29% YoY. Dichlorvos, chlorpyrifos, trichlorfon, phoxim, acephate, omethoate, dimethoate, triazophos are strongly demanded. Acephate still holds a stable position in the domestic pesticide market in the foreseeable future.
